There are several ways to measure whether your weight is a healthy weight. If you have a healthy weight, it basically means that there are no health risks with your weight. However, there is such a thing as your ideal weight. This is based on averages so your true ideal weight may be different. Your body size can be either small, normal or broad. Obviously, part of a broad physique is a higher ideal weight. Muscles are heavier than fat.
The ideal weight is very easy to determine. Based on the Body Mass Index your BMI is calculated by a certain formula. You can read more about the BMI. A BMI between 18.5 and 25 means that you have a healthy weight. An ideal weight is determined to see at what weight you have a BMI of 21.75. But this does not take into account your physique.
For athletes, the BMI is not a good indicator for calculating the ideal weight. Many athletes fall into the category of underweight while they do follow a balanced diet. Also for muscular people, the BMI is not a good indicator to use. They will often be overweight and advised to lose weight according to their BMI. Of course, these muscular people are anything but overweight!
In general, this method will be correct. Are you build very slim, then your ideal weight will probably be lower than a BMI of 21.75. Are you broadly built, your ideal BMI will be higher. The most important thing is that you are comfortable in your own body! Actually, you can therefore assume that if your BMI is between 18.5 and 25 's and you're happy with your body, you just have your ideal weight!
