In the Netherlands the following diet is called 'the hospital diet' or 'the five day diet'. The diet is a fat-free crash diet. People eat very few calories a day and this diet is also suitable for people who want to lose a lot of weight in a short time. It is often said that one can lose 10 pounds with this diet in five days, but that is individual. The diet should only be followed for a short time. A week exists of five days of dieting and on weekends you may eat normally. The diet consists mainly of oranges, eggs, yogurt, cottage cheese, toasted bread, vegetables and meat.
The good thing about this diet for some people is, that they do not have to think about what they can eat or not. The meal plan is all figured out and meals should not be moved or replaced. The weekends can be a drawback for some people. A normal diet should be followed in these weekends, but the problem is that most overweight people don't know what a normal diet is. It can also be a reason for people to turn to unhealthy snacking in the weekends. This is obviously not the intention. On weekends it is best to have breakfast and lunch with bread or cereal, and in the evening take a normal portion of a dish of your choice. If you really want to lose weight, it is wise to eat 400 calories under the amount of calories your body uses in a day. This can be calculated with the BMR and your activity level. It is a waste of the strict diet on weekdays to eat unhealthy in the weekends.
Each morning you eat the same. Breakfast consists of 1 orange or grapefruit and one biscuit or toast. In addition, you can drink coffee or tea without milk or sugar.
Monday: 1 orange or grapefruit, 1 egg, 2 cups whole yogurt and 2 slices of breads.
Tuesday: 1 orange or grapefruit, 1 egg, 2 cups whole yogurt and 2 slices of breads.
Wednesday: 1 orange or grapefruit, 1 egg, 2 cups whole yogurt and 2 slices of breads.
Thursday : 125g cottage cheese, 1 tomato, 1 sour pickle and one biscuit or toast.
Friday : 200g fish of choice, 1 tomato and 1 biscuit or toast.
Monday: 2 tomatoes , 2 eggs , 1 cup whole yogurt, 2 slices of bread and lettuce.
Tuesday: 1 orange or grapefruit, 1 tomato, 1 cup whole yogurt, 1 slice of bread and one tartar.
Wednesday: 1 orange or grapefruit , 1 cup whole yogurt, 1 slice of bread and 125 grams of beef.
Thursday: 1 apple, 2 tomatoes, 1 slice of bread and one tartar.
Friday: 1 egg , 1 tomato and lettuce.
Target weight reached?
Once the target weight is reached you continue to follow the diet for one day a week, preferably on monday. In the morning you will just take a glass of water with lemon, 1 apple in the afternoon with one slices of bread, and in the evening lettuce, 1 egg and 1 tomato.
With this diet you will undoubtedly lose weight because you will eat very little. The diet is difficult to maintain if you have a busy life. You also do not learn what is healthy and the chances are that you will go back to your normal eating schedule again after the diet. This is mostly an unhealthy diet which will make you gain weight again. 1 balance day per week will not change this. It might be a better idea to follow the hospital diet for one week every month. The other weeks you can have one balance day a week.
Of course, it would be best if you will learn a healthy diet and if you can enjoy food in a responsible and healthy manner. The hospital diet is a good diet to lose weight very fast, for example if you have a big party coming up.
