Food scientists at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign have conducted research into protein-rich and carbohydrate-rich diets. Which diet works best? Read the results of the study in this article.
The 24 subjects were women between 45 and 56 years old. They were given a diet which contained a certain amount of proteïn. The protein-rich diet included 1.6 gram of protein for every kilo of the body weight. The carbohydrate diet group was given only 0.8 gram of protein per kilo of body weight. Both the protein diet as carbohydrate diet yielded 50 grams of fat per day and a total of 1700 calories.
The results after ten weeks were as follows:

The protein diet kept the insulin levels low and the glucose levels high. The amount of fat lost was a lot higher in the group who followed the protein rich diet.
